How to Reach Kabataş Pier and Get Back — Bosphorus Dinner Cruise

Kabataş Pier at sunset with Tosunpaşa moored, the departure point for Bosphorus Night dinner cruises

Kabataş İskelesi (Kabataş Pier) sits on the European shore of the Bosphorus, a few hundred meters south of Dolmabahçe Palace and just below the famous Taksim hill. It is one of the busiest passenger piers in Istanbul and — relevant if you are reading this — the official departure point for Bosphorus Night's dinner cruise. Boarding opens at 19:30 and the boat (Tosunpaşa) leaves the pier at 20:30 sharp, returning at 23:30.

Most first-time visitors find Kabataş easy to reach once they understand which line goes where. The pier is served by the T1 tram, the F1 funicular from Taksim, public ferries, the seaside coastal road from Beşiktaş, and direct buses from both Istanbul airports. Below is a practical guide for the most common starting points in the city.

Where Is Kabataş Pier?

Address: Kemankeş Karamustafa Paşa Mahallesi, Kabataş İskele Sokak, Beyoğlu / Istanbul. The pier is on the European side, immediately south of Dolmabahçe Palace. Google Maps coordinates: 41.0335° N, 28.9925° E. The closest landmarks are Dolmabahçe Palace (300 m north), the funicular station to Taksim (50 m), and the T1 tram terminal (next to the pier).

When you arrive, look for the white passenger pier with the city ferry boats and private cruise boats moored side by side. Tosunpaşa is the largest boat at the dock during evening hours — 42 meters long, three decks, lit in warm gold. There are staff on the pier who can direct you to the correct boat.

From Eminönü

This is the easiest connection in Istanbul. Take the T1 tram from Eminönü towards Kabataş. The tram runs every 5–7 minutes, costs around 27 TL (Istanbulkart) per ride, and reaches Kabataş in roughly 12 minutes. Kabataş is the last stop, so you cannot miss it. When you exit the tram, the pier is 30 seconds away on your right.

If you prefer to walk along the water, Eminönü to Kabataş along the coastal road is about 3.5 km — roughly 40 minutes at a relaxed pace. It is a pleasant walk past Karaköy and Galataport with sea views the whole way, but plan at least an hour to allow for stops.

From Sultanahmet

The T1 tram runs directly between Sultanahmet and Kabataş. Board at Sultanahmet station (just outside the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque) and ride 8 stops to Kabataş — about 20 minutes in total. Same fare as above (around 27 TL with Istanbulkart). Trams in Istanbul are clean, well-marked in English, and connect most of the historic peninsula to the modern center in a single ride.

From Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş is the closest district to Kabataş. The simplest option is to walk along the seaside promenade — about 1.5 km, or 15 minutes at an easy pace. You pass Dolmabahçe Palace on the way, which is worth a few minutes even if you do not stop in. The walk is flat, scenic, and well-lit after dark.

If you prefer not to walk, the dolmuş (shared minibus) from Beşiktaş to Kabataş takes about 5 minutes and costs around 15–20 TL. Or take a taxi for roughly 80–120 TL depending on traffic.

From Taksim

This is the fastest connection of all. Take the F1 funicular from Taksim Square down to Kabataş. It is a single stop, runs every 3–5 minutes, takes 90 seconds underground, and costs the standard Istanbulkart fare. The Taksim end of the funicular is on the corner of Taksim Square next to the Marmara Hotel — clearly signposted in English. The Kabataş end opens directly onto the pier complex.

If you want to walk instead, Taksim to Kabataş is downhill all the way — about 1 km on Tarlabaşı or 1.2 km on Sıraselviler. The hill is steep, so most visitors take the funicular both ways.

From Istanbul Airport (IST)

The most reliable option is the Havaist H-2 bus, which runs from IST directly to Taksim. The bus takes 60–90 minutes depending on traffic and costs around 270 TL. From Taksim, take the F1 funicular as described above (1 minute to Kabataş).

Alternatively, take the M11 metro from IST to Gayrettepe, change to M2 towards Yenikapı, get off at Taksim, and walk to the funicular. Total journey is around 75 minutes and costs about 70 TL — slower than the bus but cheaper. A direct taxi from IST to Kabataş runs around 1,500–2,000 TL during normal hours and 60–90 minutes in light traffic.

From Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW)

From SAW (Asian side), take the Havabüs direct to Taksim — 90–120 minutes and around 200 TL. From Taksim, F1 funicular to Kabataş. A taxi from SAW to Kabataş is around 1,200–1,800 TL and takes 60–90 minutes depending on Bosphorus Bridge traffic.

If you prefer public transport throughout, take the M4 metro from SAW to Kadıköy, then a ferry across the Bosphorus to Kabataş — a longer route but a memorable one if you have time and want to arrive by water.

Hotel Transfer for Bosphorus Night Guests

If you are booked on our dinner cruise and prefer not to figure out the route yourself, we offer hotel pickup for €10 per person within central Istanbul. Pickup begins around 18:00–19:00 depending on your hotel's location and traffic, and our driver brings you directly to the pier in time for the 19:30 boarding. You can add this to your booking when you reserve, or message us on WhatsApp afterwards to arrange it.

For most central neighborhoods — Sultanahmet, Beyoğlu, Taksim, Şişli, Beşiktaş, Galata, Karaköy — the transfer is straightforward. For more distant areas (Asian side, Bakırköy, Florya, Zeytinburnu) please confirm with us first; we can usually arrange it but the pickup time will be earlier.

After the Cruise — Getting Back from Kabataş at 23:30

Your Bosphorus cruise returns to Kabataş at 23:30. Transport options narrow slightly after this hour but are still available. Here are the practical choices for the return journey:

T1 Tram (runs until 00:30): The easiest way back if you're staying in Eminönü, Sultanahmet, Karaköy, Cevizlibağ, or further down the line. The tram is still running when the cruise ends, but the last departures are between 00:00 and 00:30. About 20 minutes back to Sultanahmet.

F1 Funicular to Taksim (runs until 00:00): A single 90-second stop for Taksim, Beyoğlu, and İstiklal Caddesi. The last service runs close to midnight, so board by 23:45 to be safe.

Taxi: Available 24/7. Approximate fares — Sultanahmet ~200 TL, Taksim ~80–100 TL, Şişli ~150 TL, Levent ~200 TL, Asian side 400–600 TL (bridge traffic varies). A taxi rank operates at the Kabataş pier entrance, or use BiTaksi/UberTR apps.

Dolmuş (shared minibus): Runs to Beşiktaş during busier hours but service thins out late at night — a taxi is the safer choice.

Bosphorus Night return transfer: Return drop-off to your hotel is not included in the standard packages, but it can be added on request for €10 per person. If you opt for this, our driver meets you at the pier as the cruise ends.

Practical Tips

Aim to arrive at Kabataş between 19:30 and 19:45. Boarding opens at 19:30 and the boat leaves promptly at 20:30 — late arrivals cannot be accommodated once we are on the water. If you are coming by tram or funicular, the pier is a 30-second walk from either exit. If you are driving, paid parking is available at Dolmabahçe Otoparkı (about 200 m walk to the pier) at around 50–80 TL for the evening.

Bring a light jacket — even in summer, the Bosphorus breeze cools the deck after sunset. And do not worry if you arrive a few minutes early; the upper terrace of the boat is the best vantage point to watch the city light up as departure approaches.
