The strait in numbers
The Bosphorus is a 31-kilometre strait joining the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, and one of the very few that run straight through the middle of a major city. At its narrowest — between the two Ottoman fortresses, Rumeli and Anadolu Hisarı — it is only about 700 metres wide; that is the point where the cruise turns.
Our route covers the southern half of the strait: from Kabataş north to the second bridge and back down the Asian shore. In three hours you pass two continents, the Bosphorus Bridge from below (twice) with the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge in view, three palaces, two fortresses and the Maiden's Tower — all lit, all from the water.
